Who Are We?
The roots of Beetham Pastural grow from a long and proud history of Sheep and Beef farming in the Wairarapa. The Beetham family has been farming in the Wainuioru Valley, east of Masterton, for over a century and a half, having established Brancepeth Station in 1856. At its height, Brancepeth covered 34,000 hectares and employed over 300 staff, with its own school, library, post office and church. Today Brancepeth is held in a preservation trust established by the family and is considered a unique and special place in New Zealand.
Turn the clock forward to 2013 where William and Emily are 5th generation Beethams proudly farming the same land. With one foot firmly within the impressive history and traditions of his forefathers on this land, William’s other foot is moving swiftly onward to the future. He quickly became aware that in respecting and understanding that past, we could not stand still and forward-thinking, planning and a proactive approach were required to thrive for another 150 years, and beyond.
It was obvious from the beginning of our journey, that the disconnect and quandary of succession was far more commonplace than previously realised or perhaps acknowledged. We have created options and solutions for our partners where together we protect and enhance the Sheep and Beef farming legacy for the future.
